Beagle showed what he's capable of during the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs, helping the Washington Capitals win their first NHL championship by scoring eight points (two goals, six assists) in 23 games and winning 60.1 percent of his 306 face-offs.
Beagle, a native of Calgary, Alberta, had 107 points (38 goals, 69 assists) and 214 penalty minutes in two seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. But when he did not attract the attention of NHL scouts, he went to the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

Beagle left college after his sophomore year and joined Idaho of the ECHL, where he scored two goals and 10 points in the final eight games of the 2006-07 season. He also had three points and 22 penalty minutes in 18 playoff games to help Idaho to the Kelly Cup Championship.
That run caught the attention of the Capitals, who signed Beagle to an American Hockey League contract with Hershey for the 2007-08 season. His 19 goals and 37 points in 64 games led to a two-year NHL contract.
Beagle played the majority of the next two seasons with Hershey, which won the Calder Cup championship both seasons. In between, he made his NHL debut in a 5-4 shootout loss to the New York Rangers on Feb. 11, 2009.
Beagle eventually landed a regular checking-line role with the Capitals to start the 2011-12 season and has been a mainstay ever since. He's also become one of the NHL's best face-off men, finishing fourth in 2017-18 among players who took at least 500 with a 58.5 winning percentage, and averaged 22 points in four seasons from 2014-18.
After winning the Stanley Cup with the Capitals, Beagle signed a four-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks on July 1, 2018.
