DAL@MTL: Seguin makes dazzling move for OT winner

MONTREAL -- Tyler Seguin scored his second goal at 2:52 of overtime, and the Dallas Stars rallied after trailing by three to defeat the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 at Bell Centre on Saturday.

Seguin swept the puck around Montreal defenseman Victor Mete while cutting past him before scoring with a backhand to extend Dallas' winning streak to four games.
It was Seguin's third goal in two games, including the winning goal that ended his 17-game drought in a 3-2 victory at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

"We've been pumping his tires for a couple of weeks about all the good things he does to help us win," Stars coach Rick Bowness said. "And the last couple of games, it's the goal-scoring that's helped us win. So even without those two goals, you saw him battling in the offensive zone, he's playing very hard. He's leading by example. There's a lot of passion in his game right now.
"This is probably the best we've seen him playing for a long stretch of time, so give him kudos and give him credit, because when you're a goal-scorer and you're not scoring, there's a lot of noise around you and it's easy to get distracted. So we're very proud of how he's handled that whole scenario and just kept plugging away, and it's nice to see him be rewarded tonight."

Blake Comeau tied it 3-3 at 9:08 of the third.
Mattias Janmark scored, and Joe Pavelski had two assists for Dallas (34-19-5), which is 6-1-1 in its past eight games and trails the St. Louis Blues by one point for first in the Western Conference and Central Division. Ben Bishop made 29 saves.
Montreal (27-26-8) has lost four straight, including a 4-1 loss at the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday, since going 9-3-0 in its previous 12. The Canadiens are nine points out of the second wild card into the playoffs from the Eastern Conference.
"I think they just grabbed a lot of momentum and that carried on in the game," said Canadiens goalie Carey Price, who made 22 saves. "I thought we played a very excellent third period and deserved a better third than that."
It was the Stars' NHL-leading ninth win when trailing after the second period.
"We've been doing it all season, so I don't think there's any doubt in this room whenever we get down," Bishop said. "It's kind of the way we play and always stick to our systems. They got a couple of lucky bounces there to get their goals, and I don't think anybody was too worried. We were playing good. Obviously, they came at us pretty hot there at the beginning, but I thought we did a good job the rest of the game."
Joel Armia, Jordan Weal and Nick Cousins scored to give the Canadiens a 3-0 lead.
Armia made it 1-0 at 1:02 of the first, scoring off a rebound from the edge of the crease.

Weal, who played his first game since Feb. 1, gave Montreal a 2-0 lead at 3:58 of the second.
Cousins extended the lead to 3-0 at 6:23, scoring from the left face-off circle after carrying the puck into the zone.
Janmark made it 3-1 at 9:05.
Seguin cut it to 3-2 when he one-timed a pass from John Klingberg on the power play at 15:47.

"We're up 3-0, we're playing well, we make a bad mistake in giving them the puck on that first goal," Canadiens coach Claude Julien said. "But in those situations after that we could have had power plays. It was such a poorly managed game, let's put it that way."

They said it

"There's times when you know your team's in a bit of a panic, and there was no sense of that tonight at all. The guys were confident that when it went 3-0 that if we got the next one, we were right back in the game, which proved to be true. So it's a confident group that doesn't get rattled." -- Stars coach Rick Bowness
"I think we came out of the gates flying. We had a really good first period. … They stuck with it, got some bounces, got some power plays, and they capitalized. We've got to find a way to minimize those mistakes, and find ways to get ready to go, and come back out and get the next goal." -- Canadiens forward Max Domi

Need to know

It was Seguin's eighth regular-season overtime goal, all with Dallas. Mike Modano holds the Stars/Minnesota North Stars record with nine. … Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin took the warmup but was a late scratch with a lower-body injury. He had no points in the previous four games after missing 37 games while recovering from wrist surgery. "He sprained his ankle at the end of the game Wednesday (a 4-1 loss at the Boston Bruins) and tried it out in the warmup but didn't feel good enough to play," Julien said.
