GLENDALE -The NHL trade deadline is Monday at 1 p.m. (Arizona time), but General Manager John Chayka says the Coyotes likely won't be very active in the wheeling and dealing.
"The deadline is for teams that are gearing up for the playoffs," Chayka told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM, the team's flagship radio station, on Wednesday morning. "There's a focus a lot on rentals. I don't think we have much on that front, and the ones we do have, we like … We'll have a lot of discussions and try to be proactive, but no promises in terms of (player) movement at the deadline."
The Coyotes have won four games in a row with five games left on a season-long seven-game homestand that continues on Thursday vs. Calgary.

Chayka has liked what he's seen from the Coyotes during the streak and dating to Jan. 4. Arizona is 8-5-5 since then. Nevertheless, Chayka said he's participating in the pre-deadline hoopla, if you will, around the League. Arizona's roster features several veterans who are slated to become unrestricted free agents on July 1. They are forwards Brad Richardson and Zac Rinaldo, defensemen Kevin Connauton and Luke Schenn, and goalie Antti Raanta.
"I think there's a difference between active and productive," Chayka said. "I'm trying to be active in the sense of making a lot of calls and fielding a lot of calls and just trying to see if there's anything there that allows us to fill a role moving forward for our group. At the same time, I'm not going to make a move just to make a move. I think what we've got here is a good, young group and some real solid veterans around them. My goal is to not do anything to take anything away from that. If I can supplement it or add to it or do something that creates some synergy moving forward, then that's what I'm looking to do to help grow this group."
