Why is this the right location for the Coyotes new arena?
The location along the Northwest corner of Scottsdale Road and Loop 101 is one of the preeminent locations across the Valley. The area is surrounded by a strong corporate and employment base, direct freeway access and is shovel ready because it is not on a landfill. The property development is not subject to referendums or a Government Property Lease Excise Tax (GPLET), which were non-negotiable parameters for the Coyotes and the Meruelo family.
Who is developing the district?
The Meruelo family is privately developing the district. It will be the first fully privately funded sports facility in Arizona, not creating new taxes or taxpayer obligations.
What is the projected economic impact on Phoenix and Maricopa County?
It has been projected that more than 3 million annual visitors will enjoy the district. Overall, the district will generate $581 million in new tax revenue for Phoenix and $232 million to Maricopa County. It will create 10,800 new jobs in Phoenix and 16,700 jobs throughout Maricopa County.
What is the timeline for the opening of the arena?
The development will undergo a phased rollout, with the Coyotes new arena scheduled to open in time for the 2027-2028 NHL season. This timing is consistent with the timeline the Coyotes proposed to the NHL more than a year ago.

This will be a $3+ Billion project, one of the largest property developments in Arizona’s history. It will also be the first sports facility in Arizona that is completely privately funded and does not require new taxes or taxpayer obligations.

The proposed plan for the Coyotes headquarters and practice facility will span 150,000 square feet and will feature three ice sheets, state-of-the-art training equipment, player lounges, coach and executive offices, and additional team amenities. The facility will also be open to the Coyotes Youth Ice Hockey program at all levels, as well as to the broader community.
