NEW YORK - With just one month until the 2023 Discover NHL Winter Classic®, the countdown to the much-anticipated Jan. 2 matchup between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins at Fenway Park, home of Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox, has begun. The event will be televised nationally on TNT in the U.S. and on Sportsnet, CBC and TVA Sports in Canada at 2 p.m. ET.

The 2023 Discover NHL Winter Classic® continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year, with the 2023 edition marking the 15-year anniversary of the first NHL Winter Classic® in Buffalo. The game will be the 14th NHL Winter Classic®, the 36th NHL regular-season outdoor game, and the first of two NHL regular-season outdoor games scheduled for the 2022-23 season. The 2023 Discover NHL Winter Classic® will mark the fifth time the Bruins will play in an NHL regular-season outdoor game, as well as the second time the NHL has played a regular-season outdoor game at Fenway Park, following the 2010 NHL Winter Classic® between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Bruins, who won the game 2-1 in overtime. The game will mark the sixth regular-season outdoor contest for the Penguins, who most recently lost to the Flyers 4-3 in overtime at the 2019 NHL Stadium Series™ at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
The 2023 Discover NHL Winter Classic® will showcase a number of the top players in the NHL. With the League's top record through games played on Nov. 30, the Bruins (19-3-0) are led by captain Patrice Bergeron, forwards David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, defensemen Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm, and goaltender Linus Ullmark, who is the League leader in wins (13), goals-against average (2.00) and save percentage (.935) through games played on Nov. 30. The Penguins (11-8-4) counter with captain Sidney Crosby, forwards Evgeni Malkin, Jake Guentzel and Rickard Rakell, and goaltender Tristan Jarry.
