Schmaltz scored each of his goals on the power play, which was 4-for-6, and extended his goal streak to four games.
Richard Panik, with his first goal since Oct. 21, Patrick Sharp and Jan Rutta scored for Chicago, which has won two games in a row for the first time since Dec. 14-17.
Mark Stone had a goal and an assist, and Derick Brassard scored for the Senators (14-18-9), who lost for the first time in three games. Stone has eight points (three goals, five assists) in his past three games.

Craig Anderson allowed four goals on 26 shots and was replaced by Mike Condon at 9:53 of the second period. Condon made 13 saves on 17 shots.
It was the first time the Blackhawks had four power-play goals in a game this season; their previous high was two, five times. Kane scored on the power play and had an assist on the other three goals with the man-advantage.
"I've never done it before in the NHL. It's a good feeling," Kane said of his five-point game. "I think one of the things we really haven't really had the fortune of this year is to have a hot power play. You saw that tonight. We were kind of making easy plays. I don't think it was anything special throughout the game. Just making the right play out there and finishing off some plays. It was a good night for everyone."
Said Schmaltz of playing with Kane: "He's just so effortless and so fun to watch and be a part of, being on his line. It's a treat every night. He makes something spectacular happen every night, it seems like. To be able to watch him and play with him is pretty amazing. I think he could have multiple points every night."
After Panik made it 1-0 at 18:51 of the first period, the Blackhawks got three goals in 4:39 in the second. Sharp made it 2-0 at 5:14, Schmaltz scored on the power play at 8:15 for a 3-0 lead, and Toews scored off the rebound of a Jordan Oesterle shot at 9:53.
Anderson was pulled after Toews scored to make it 4-0.
"When the snowball starts rolling, it's hard to make it stop," Senators captain Erik Karlsson said. "They were obviously feeling the game, and we were not."
Stone (10:35) and Brassard (16:39) scored to get the Senators within 4-2, but Schmaltz (17:33) and Rutta (19:07) each scored a power-play goal to make it 6-2.
Forsberg had an assist on Rutta's goal for his first NHL point.
In the third period, Toews scored his second of the night at 3:24 to make it 7-2, and Kane scored to make it 8-2 at 10:01 with Senators defenseman Dion Phaneuf in the penalty box for slashing Lance Bouma.

"We saw the power play for maybe the first time all year dominate a game for us," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said. "We haven't seen it click and get that type of production or looks, some really nice plays and some finish. That's a real positive sign because that's the one area we've been looking to capture, and if we can get that going, that can really ignite our team."
Senators forward Bobby Ryan, who missed eight games Oct. 24-Nov. 16 with a broken finger, went to the locker room with nine seconds left in the second period with a hand injury and is out indefinitely.

They said it

"When everyone is playing their game and everyone is contributing, I think we're a dangerous team. Four lines contributed again tonight. It's scary when we're playing that well for other teams. They don't know who to match up against." -- Blackhawks forward Nick Schmaltz
"We've talked about it, you guys have talked about it, and we have to find a way in our room to have better second periods. We have to find a way to be better in the second, more consistent, and play to our capabilities." -- Senators defenseman Dion Phaneuf on being outscored 61-34 in the second period this season
