Jarvis, Aho power Hurricanes' 5-2 victory in Game 4

ELMONT, N.Y. --Seth Jarvis scored twice, and the Carolina Hurricanes ended an eight-game road losing streak in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 5-2 win against the New York Islanders in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference First Round at UBS Arena on Sunday.

The Hurricanes' last road win in the postseason was a 3-2 overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 3 of the 2021 Eastern Conference Second Round.
"Unbelievable. It's good. It's nice to win one not on home ice," Jarvis said. "I think it only helps us. It's not good when you can't win on the road and only win at home. So, it's nice to take one here and just go into Carolina and hopefully we can end it."
Carolina has a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 series and will host Game 5 on Tuesday.

Sebastian Aho had a goal and two assists, Mackenzie MacEachern had a goal and an assist, and Stefan Noesen had two assists for the Hurricanes, who are the No. 1 seed from the Metropolitan Division. Antti Raanta made 27 saves.
"Every time when you get a chance to play in these games, it's an amazing feeling and you just try to do whatever you can to play as [well] as possible," Raanta said. "I just try to do my own thing and hope that the guys in front of me are doing their thing."

Adam Pelech and Bo Horvat scored, and Ilya Sorokin made 24 saves for the Islanders, who are the first wild card from the East.
"We have a lot of work to do," Horvat said. "Obviously, it's do-or-die for us right now, so we [have to] approach that coming here the next couple days."
The Islanders got into penalty trouble early in the game, with Zach Parise being called for goaltender interference at 2:41 of the first period, and Ryan Pulock being assessed a minor penalty for boarding Jack Drury at 3:30. On the ensuing 5-on-3 power play, Jarvis gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead at 4:05 with a one-timer near the left post off a pass by Noesen.
Drury, who sustained an upper-body injury on the hit from Pulock, left the game and did not return. Coach Rod Brind'Amour did not have an update on him after the game.
"It was huge on the power play," Jarvis said. "Jack took a heavy hit there and he's hurt, you never want to see that happen. To be able to capitalize on that was huge for us. I mean, 5-on-3, you have to score. You don't get many of those, so you have to take advantage of them."
Necas extended it to 2-0 at 1:15 of the second period on another power play, scoring glove side off a cross-crease pass by Noesen.

Aho made it to 3-0 at 13:30. After Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov turned the puck over to Aho above Carolina's blue line, the forward broke out 2-on-1 and scored off a return pass from MacEachern.
Jarvis pushed it to 4-0 at 1:20 of the third period when he chipped the puck past a diving Brock Nelson in the neutral zone and scored glove side on a breakaway.
Pelech cut it to 4-1 at 3:14. After a miscommunication between Noesen and Raanta in front of the net, Nelson sent the puck back to Pelech, who scored glove side.
"We had our looks," New York defenseman Noah Dobson said. "A lot of rebounds in front where we were just half a second late getting there."
MacEachern made it 5-1 at 14:01 with his first NHL playoff goal after a shot attempt by Brady Skjei deflected off the stick of Hudson Fasching to him in the slot.

CAR@NYI, Gm4: MacEachern goes upstairs to pad lead

MacEachern, who was recalled from Chicago of the American Hockey League on April 20, was playing his first game with Carolina and his first NHL game since April 8, 2022, as a member of the St. Louis Blues.
"It was an unbelievable experience," MacEachern said. "I played a couple of playoff games with St. Louis (five games in 2020), but it was in the bubble so it wasn't the atmosphere we saw this afternoon. So just try to take it all in and go shift by shift.
Horvat scored on a short-handed breakaway at 17:57 for the 5-2 final.
"The effort is there (for Horvat)," New York coach Lane Lambert said. "There's no question about it. That is never in question."
NOTES:Islanders forward Casey Cizikas left with 17 seconds remaining in the game after being hit in the face by a backhand clearing attempt from teammate Sebastian Aho. There was no update. … Aho has 20 career playoff goals, passing Eric Staal for the most in Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers history. He already holds the franchise record for assists (31) and points (51).
