Noesen enjoyed a breakthrough NHL season with the New Jersey Devils in 2017-18, finishing with 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists) in 72 games. The Devils had claimed the 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward off waivers from the Anaheim Ducks on Jan. 25, 2017.
Noesen grew up in suburban Dallas and played youth hockey with future Devils teammate Blake Coleman. He was chosen by the Ottawa Senators with the No. 21 pick in the 2011 NHL Draft and was invited to training camp after the 2012-13 NHL lockout, but failed to make the team and was returned to Plymouth of the Ontario Hockey League.

Noesen was traded by the Senators to the Ducks on July 5, 2013. He spent the majority of his time in the Ducks organization with San Diego of the American Hockey League before being placed on waivers. He had eight points (six goals, two assists) in 32 games with the Devils. After signing as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Dec. 2, 2019, he was claimed off waivers by the Sharks 17 days later.
