Samoskevich was acquired in a trade with the Florida Panthers on June 21 for a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and a conditional second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft. He then signed a three-year, $11.55 million contract ($3.85 million average annual value) on July 1.
Berkly Catton had a goal and an assist, and Shane Wright, Bobby McMann and Jordan Eberle also scored for the Kraken (2-1-0), who were coming off a 3-1 loss at the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. Joey Daccord made 32 saves after stopping 24 shots in another 6-1 win against the Flames in the season opener on Thursday.
Morgan Frost scored the lone goal for the Flames (0-3-0), who were coming off a 4-1 loss at the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Dustin Wolf allowed six goals on 27 shots.
Catton gave Seattle a 1-0 lead at 2:22 of the first period off a 3-on-2 rush. Kaapo Kakko’s pass attempt was broken up by the stick of Zach Whitecloud, but Catton skated into the puck in the high slot and scored with a wrist shot over Wolf’s glove from the left circle.
Samoskevich pushed it to 2-0 on a partial breakaway at 4:40. Brandon Montour’s high flip from the defensive zone landed at the offensive blue line, and Samoskevich won the race to the loose puck before sliding a backhand under Wolf.
McMann extended the lead to 3-0 at 7:40, settling a bouncing puck off the rush and snapping a shot over Wolf’s right shoulder from the left circle.
Wright made it 4-0 at 11:58 of the second period. He scored five-hole with a backhand from the low slot after receiving a pass from Catton with his back toward the net.
Samoskevich scored his second goal of the game off a 3-on-3 rush to make it 5-0 at 19:34. He received a quick pass from Matty Beniers in the right circle and roofed a wrist shot over Wolf’s blocker and under the crossbar.
Frost spoiled Daccord’s shutout bid with a power-play goal at 14:25 of the third period. He dropped to a knee and tapped Matvei Gridin’s pass to the left post past Daccord’s right skate to make it 5-1.
Eberle scored 39 seconds later with a snap shot from the top of the right circle for the 6-1 final.
