Hall breaks tie late, Bruins recover to defeat Jets

WINNIPEG-- Taylor Hall broke a tie with 4:47 remaining in the third period to help the Boston Bruins to a 4-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre on Friday.

Hall's power-play goal gave Boston a 3-2 lead and came on a Charlie Coyle rebound, backhanding the puck in.
"They came out hot, and you know there's going to be a pushback from every team," Boston goalie Linus Ullmark said. "I really liked our response after that. We got our stuff together and we went forward, and our power play came up huge."
Ullmark made 27 saves and Coyle had three assists for the Bruins (38-19-5), who lost a 2-0 third-period lead before recovering.
"That first period was OK coming off a day off," Boston coach Bruce Cassidy said. "[Winnipeg] had good jump. We kind of battled back after a few early chances and we really found our footing in the second period. Then, obviously, the third was not perfect to start by any means. But again, we wanted to win and it showed."

Adam Lowry and Nikolaj Ehlers scored, and Connor Hellebuyck made 41 saves for the Jets (28-24-10), who lost for the second time in their past six games.
"It's disappointing," Winnipeg coach Dave Lowry said. "I notice that we battled. We battled to bring the game to even and those are the penalties that you would like to get the kill. Those are the penalties where you try and pick up a teammate."
The Bruins scored twice in the second period while outshooting the Jets 22-4.
"We knew that they were going to come out in the second period and we knew that they were going to be a lot more direct," Dave Lowry said. "They got pucks to the goal line and we spent a lot of time defending."
Brad Marchand gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead at 4:42 of the second period, completing a give-and-go on a 2-on-1 with Jake DeBrusk and scoring from the left side of the crease.

Trent Frederic made it 2-0 at 7:12, taking a loose puck behind Hellebuyck and tucking it inside the right post.
"We had talked about getting to the interior against Winnipeg," Cassidy said. "They have some smaller 'D,' a couple big ones, but some smaller ones, and statistically they don't defend the slot that well for whatever reason. So get inside there, and Charlie [Coyle] started that. He got inside, even though he lost the puck he was heavy in there and [Frederic] kind of cleaned it up. That kind of got us going for those types of goals."
The Jets scored two goals in 85 seconds in the third period to tie it. Lowry cut it to 2-1 at 2:29, tipping Evgeny Svechnikov's shot.
Ehlers tied it 2-2 at 3:54, scoring five-hole on Ullmark on a 3-on-2 rush.
"We did have our chances," Ehlers said. "But getting a goal like that, where it's 2-2, in an important game, that's what you want."

After Hall gave the Bruins the lead, McAvoy scored shorthanded into an empty net at 19:29 for the 4-2 final.
The Bruins are 18-4-2 following a loss this season, bouncing back from a 4-2 defeat at the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday.
"You lose a game you want to come right back and redeem yourself and win," Coyle said. "That's stuff we always talk about when we go down. We lose one, we're chomping at the bit to come back and have a good game. And that's what you need, especially during these later stages of the season and in the playoffs."
NOTES: David Pastrnak played his 500th NHL game, all with the Bruins. He had seven shots on goal in 15:48 of ice time. … Boston is 20-9-3 on the road. … The Bruins are 7-1-2 in their past nine games against the Jets, including a 3-2 win in their other meeting this season in Boston on Jan. 22. … Coyle has scored nine points (two goals, seven assists) in his past six games. … Kyle Connor's five-game goal streak ended but he had an assist on Ehler's goal for a six-game point streak (11 points; five goals, six assists). Connor's assist tied his NHL season highs in assists (35) and points (73). … Ehlers has scored five points (three goals, two assists) on a four-game point streak, including a goal in each of his past three games.
