Thompson's shutout propels Golden Knights to victory

LAS VEGAS -- Logan Thompson made 29 saves to help the Vegas Golden Knights hand the Anaheim Ducks their seventh straight loss, 4-0 at T-Mobile Arena on Friday.

"That's a team win," Thompson said. "As a forward group and our D-core has been perfect all year. … They're making our (the goalies') jobs easy. We're seeing a lot of pucks. The stuff we don't see, they're getting in the way and blocking them."
William Karlsson and Reilly Smith each had a goal and an assist, and Thompson got his third NHL shutout and second of the season for the Golden Knights (7-2-0), who have won three in a row.
"We did a good job," Smith said. "We played pretty tight. We made them work for everything.
"[Logan's] been awesome. There are a couple of those bouncing pucks, I don't know how he saw them. He was tracking the puck really well tonight. He's just picking up more and more confidence every game."

John Gibson made 14 saves on 18 shots for the Ducks (1-6-1) before being replaced by Anthony Stolarz (four saves) to start the third period. They outshot the Golden Knights 29-22.
"We had enough chances to be in the game," Anaheim coach Dallas Eakins said. "They were able to score at opportune times, and we were not."
Chandler Stephenson made it 1-0 with a power-play goal at 15:12 of the first period when he made a move from behind the net and scored through the five-hole.
"When he gets his feet moving, he's got a good stick. He's smart," Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. "He makes the [defensemen] uncomfortable."
Smith gave Vegas a 2-0 lead with a short-handed goal at 8:59 of the second period, finishing a 2-on-1 off a feed from Karlsson.
"We've done a good job over the years creating offense shorthanded," Smith said. "[Karlsson] does such a good job being able to steal pucks and getting up ice and make some creative plays. That's what he did tonight. I just tried to put it on net, got a little bit lucky, but he did all the hard work there."

Karlsson extended the lead to 3-0 when he tipped Jonathan Marchessault's right point shot at 14:26.
"It's just me going to the front of the net," Karlsson said. "That's where I feel like 90-95 percent of goals are scored. Better there than the corners."
Nicolas Roy pushed it to 4-0 at 18:47 when he got to a bouncing puck behind the defense and chipped it in.
"We have good offensive players," Cassidy said. "We're not a high-volume team. When the puck is on our stick and we have time and space, we can make some plays and finish. Tonight was a good example. We didn't dominate the shot clock by any means, even some left on the table."
Anaheim defenseman Jamie Drysdale left the game midway through the second with an upper-body injury. There was no update on him after the game.
"Unfortunately, Jamie goes down," Eakins said. "But thankfully, we had seven [defensemen] dressed."
NOTES: Jakob Silfverberg played his 617th game with the Ducks, passing Steve Rucchin for fifth in franchise history. … Stephenson has a five-game point streak (four goals, one assist), matching the longest of his NHL career. … Smith scored his 100th goal with the Golden Knights (330 games).
