Three members of the Winnipeg Jets are participating in the 2023 IIHF World Hockey Championship, which is being hosted in Tampere, Finland and Riga, Latvia.

Monday marked the 11th day of competition, with Nikolaj Ehlers and Denmark taking to the ice against Sweden.

DENMARK 1, SWEDEN 4

After starting the tournament with three straight wins, Denmark has hit some adversity.

Their 4-1 loss to Sweden is now their third consecutive defeat, leaving their preliminary round record at 2-1-0-3.

Ehlers picked up an assist on Denmark's lone goal, as his puck protection skills below the Sweden goal line gave him an opportunity to find Nicklas Jensen high in the left circle for a one-timer. The shot beat goaltender Jesper Wallstedt 3:39 into the opening period and gave Denmark a 1-0 lead. The assist gives Ehlers eight points (four goals and four assists) in six games so far.

But Sweden responded just under 10 minutes later on a goal from Dennis Everberg, then pulled ahead in the second with Andre Petersson making it 2-1 with 7:40 left in the middle frame.

Sweden was tough to penetrate defensively for Ehlers and the Danes. They had seven shots on goal through 40 minutes, and despite their best efforts to tie the game in the third, they couldn't find the equalizer. In the third, with Sweden holding a 6-1 edge in shots on goal, Lucas Raymond extended the lead to 3-1 on a hard wrist shot from the high slot with under eight minutes to go. Carl Grundstrom added another just 1:42 later

Denmark wraps up the preliminary round on Tuesday against Finland.
