Season Series: The Flames won the first pre-season game between the two Pacific Division rivals on Sept. 30. Matthew Tkachuk scored the game-winner and his linemates Troy Brouwer and Sam Bennett each had two points in the 2-1 victory. Brian Elliott played the first two periods of the game, turning aside 17 of the 18 shots he faced. 2016 second round draft pick Tyler Parsons took over in net in the third period, making seven saves.
Flames' Team Scope: Calgary picked up a 2-1 shootout win over the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Tkachuk scored both goals in the pre-season finale in Calgary while Elliott made 21 saves on 22 shots. The Flames could have Sean Monahan in the lineup on Thursday night. The forward, who had limited practice time due to a back strain suffered at the beginning of September, will be evaluated after Thursday morning's skate to determine his status for the Flames' pre-season finale. Chad Johnson is the confirmed goaltender for Thursday's match-up.
Canucks' Team Scope: The Canucks will get Calgary Hitmen alumnus Jake Virtanen back in the lineup when the Flames make a stop at Rogers Arena. The forward suffered a shoulder injury in the team's first pre-season game but has been cleared to play on Thursday. Loui Eriksson is expected to play on Thursday as well, skating on a line with the Sedins. Vancouver is coming off a 4-2 loss to the Coyotes on Monday. Markus Granlund and Ben Hutton scored the Canucks' goals in the setback while goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 33 saves on 37 shots.
