PITTSBURGH - Dan THE MAN.
Pretty much sums it up.
Dan Vladar got the nod between the pipes against Sid the Kid and the Penguins Wednesday night, his first start since Nov. 10 in Boston against the Bruins, and was absolutely stellar, stupendous - just downright sublime - making 38 saves in regulation and overtime as the Flames got a point in a 2-1 shootout loss.

It was tough to keep track of all the 10-bell saves he made - because there were so many of them.
For the old-school, note-taking types, there were enough to empty a pen and fill a notepad. From breakaways to point-blank chances, he stood tall all night.
Evgeni Malkin scored the shootout winner for the homeside, the fourth Pen to go in the 1-on-1 battle. Jonathan Huberdeau and Rasmus Andersson scored for Calgary in the shootout, while Nazem Kadri and Mikael Backlund were denied by Tristan Jarry.
Malkin was celebrated in a pregame ceremony for playing his 1,000th game in Pittsburgh's last outing, a 5-3 win over Blackhawks in Chicago last Sunday.
Dillon Dube scored in regulation for the Flames, his second goal in as many games.
Vladar was tested right off the hop in the tilt, Jason Zucker getting the puck and walking into the slot and firing one from close range.
But Jan Rutta would score on the second shot the homeside got, taking a drop pass from Jeff Carter and skating down the middle all alone and snapping a wrist shot high blocker side at 2:09.
The Pens then appeared to score again at 9:42 after a turnover, Malkin setting up shop behind the net and feeding it out to Bryan Rust who one-timed it low far-side.
But the Flames challenged citing offside and after review, the officials agreed and overturned the call.
Calgary came close to tying it with under 10 minutes to go, Tyler Toffoli tipping a MacKenzie Weegar point shot past Jarry but it clanged off the post and defelected out of harm's way.
Vladar came out on fire in the first minute of the second, first stoning Crosby on the doorstep with his pad and then right after, flashing the leather to absolutely rob Rickard Rakell who was all alone at the top of the blue paint.
He then made another notable stop with Crosby off for slashing Nikita Zadorov, perfectly playing a shorthanded 2-on-1 tip by Teddy Blueger off a pass from Brock McGinn.
The line of Dube, Kadri and Andrew Mangiapane were buzzing in the middle stanza, an early shot from Dube deflecting off Pens defenceman Jeff Petry and just skirting wide of the cage.
The trio was rewarded late in the frame after another strong shift, Dube scoring his third of the season by tipping home a point shot from Chris Tanev, with Dennis Gilbert getting the other helper, his first as a Flame since being called up from the AHL's Wranglers.

Vladar kept the game knotted at one with just under five minutes into the third, slamming the wickets shut to deny a breakaway chance by Carter.

Keeping with the theme of the night, he committed grand larceny on Zucker all alone in front later in the period.
The overtime period was a wild one, with Elias Lindholm getting a minor for hooking on Crosby with 2:12 left but the Flames able to kill it off.

THEY SAID IT:

"I've got to perform as best as I can"

"We need to eat some pucks out there"

"It gives a lot of motivation to be better for him"

"He's always a guy we can count on"

"Proud of them"
