Darryl Sutter was instrumental in taking the Flames from a team that missed the playoffs last year to Pacific Division champions this campaign.
His hard work was acknowledged earlier today when he was named one of three finalists for the Jack Adams award (coach of the year), alongside Andrew Brunette of the Florida Panthers and Gerard Gallant of the New York Rangers.

The winner is the coach "adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success."
"He's been good, a real good coach," said Elias Lindholm Thursday, the day after the Flames opened their second-round playoff series with a 9-6 win over the visiting Oilers. "The coaching staff has been really good as well. We are all excited for them and for him to be nominated for the award.
"It's great to see the organization doing really well."

"Today was just put that one behind us"

Sutter, whose first tenure with the Flames started in 2002 and included the team's historic 2004 Stanley Cup run, rejoined the club as its new bench boss on March 4, 2021.
He immediately began to instill a mentality that was focused on playoff success.
"From the time Darryl came in, that summer was huge," said Jacob Markstrom. "It was something he pushed on us, that we need to be prepared to play a long season and go into playoffs. The structure and the way he wanted us to play, he really put a stamp on it when you have a full training camp and the summer.
"He's done a great job of that in the way we play."
Sutter was asked about the nomination on Thursday during the team's media availability.
"The way I look at it, I don't need that on my resume," he said. "I'd take the Jennings over that anytime. Means your team is a playoff team."

"Stay focused on what the mission is"
