1. FIGHT TO THE END

And just like that it's down to two.
After a crazy season for both sides, Tuesday and Wednesday's matinee battles will mark the end of the regular season for both the Flames and Canucks.
Riding a three-game winning streak and two straight victories vs. Vancouver, the Flames will look to carry over their strong play from Sunday's thrilling 6-5 overtime win into their last road game of the season before wrapping things up on home ice.
Sunday's battle saw the Flames strike four times in the middle stanza to take a 5-1 lead into the third which then saw the Canucks stun the visitors with four unanswered goals of their own to force overtime. A frantic extra session saw things finally come to a close after a centering pass from Elias Lindholm would go off the stick of Canucks defender Alexander Edler and into the back of the cage to give Calgary their 25th win of the year.
With playoffs out of the picture for both clubs, that doesn't mean that either side are taking these meetings lightly.
And, if last game was any indication - anything can happen.
"We're disappointed that we're not getting in," head coach Darryl Sutter said Monday. "With that said we're going to try and play the right way for these games, as we've done.
"It's difficult for the players with how the schedule is and the playoffs are going on, but I give both teams credit for being professional about it and trying to play the right way."
Winners of six of the eight meetings, the Flames have outscored the Canucks by a 27-20 margin and during their winning streak, have seen their offence explode for 16 goals in the last three games.
"I think we've done a lot of good things the last couple of games and we'll finish the season strong, hopefully," Mark Giordano said. "Obviously, we're not where we want to be but once we get into the game, you see guys play hard... the intensity goes up and guys are competitive out there."

2. THE OTHER SIDE

It's been a busy stretch as of late for the Canucks.
As they make up games that had to be rescheduled following a hiatus due to their COVID outbreak, there's been little rest as they're in the midst of 14 games in 22 days.
It's a full on sprint to the finish line with yet another back-to-back set on the horizon.
Despite only winning three of their last 13 games, Sunday's rally showed that they have plenty of fight left in the tank.
"Anytime you head into a situation like that you want to show some character and pride and not leave your goalie out to dry," forward J.T. Miller said following Sunday's game. "It was a good hard-fought game and we're proud of how we responded."
With two games to go, Vancouver sits three points back of Ottawa to get out of the basement of the North Division, and as head coach Travis Green told the media after the overtime loss, he's looking for more of the same from their third period rally.
"Our guys aren't going to lay down and give up," Green said. "This is part of what we've tried to create all year, a team that is going to compete hard and play to win no matter what."

3. FAMILY MATTERS

It's already is a rarity having a father and son both play in the NHL.
But to have both coached by the same person, now that is something truly unique.
This feat was accomplished when Flames defenceman Connor Mackey played his first game under head coach Darryl Sutter Sunday night, as his father Dave was coached by Sutter on two occasions - in 1986 with the Saginaw Generals of the International Hockey League, and 1987-89 with the Chicago Blackhawks.
"He was a big grinding guy," Sutter said about Dave. "Look his numbers up and see what his stats tell you what kind of player he was.
"He was a player I enjoyed coaching."
Dave Mackey spent parts of six seasons in the NHL, appearing in 129 career contests split with the Blackhawks, Minnesota North Stars and St. Louis Blues. He collected eight goals along with 12 assists with the 307 career penalty minutes showcasing just exactly what Sutter was referencing to.
For Connor, the rookie rearguard has collected two assists in four games and took a page out of dad's book with his first NHL fight last game.

4. PLAYERS TO WATCH

Flames - Andrew Mangiapane
Eat Bread is on a roll!
The 25-year-old tallied two goals in the last meeting Sunday night and now is just one goal and two points away from matching his career highs of 17 tallies and 32 points which were both set last season.
The winger has lit the lamp more against Vancouver than any other team in the North Division with five markers. With 30 points heading into the clash, he sits in the top-five of team scoring, just one back of teammate Mikael Backlund for fourth.
Canucks - Brock Boeser
The sniper played a major factor in Vancouver coming back from a four-goal deficit last outing, notching two goals - including the tying goal late in the third. With 22 markersso far this campaign, the former first rounder has reached the 20-goal mark for the third time in the past four seasons.
In the season series against the Flames, Boeser has racked up nine points (5G, 4A) in eight contests and overall in his career has collected 17 points in 20 games vs. Calgary.

5. QUOTABLE

"We need to play the right way. We obviously have done a lot of good things as far as our system and we feel we've done that in the last 20-25 games. We want to keep that going, build on that and come back next year with a good mentality. Right now, it's about showing each other that when you get on the ice, you're going to play hard for the guy next to you and finish strong."
Mark Giordano on what the team mindset is headed into the final two games of the season.
