MONTREAL - Six Canadiens prospects feature at the 2023 edition of the IIHF World Junior Championship, the most among all represented NHL teams.

The tournament is taking place in Moncton and Halifax, and preliminary round action began on Monday.
Eight teams were scheduled to play, and fans were able to watch Oliver Kapanen (Finland), Adam Engstrom (Sweden), Lane Hutson (USA), and Joshua Roy (Canada).
Finland 2 - Switzerland 3 (OT)
Forward Oliver Kapanen - not to be confused with his cousin Konsta Kapanen who also plays for Finland - finished the game with a minus-1 differential in 14:02 of ice time. He had one shot on goal in the overtime loss.
Sweden 11 - Austria 0
Defenseman Engstrom stood out among Canadiens prospects on Monday, collecting a pair of assists and two shots on goal in a 11-0 win over the Austrians. He registered a plus-4 differential in his first 15 minutes and 37 seconds of play at the tournament.
It is worth noting that Vinzenz Rohrer was sick and did not don the red and white threads.
Latvia 2 - United States 5
Promising prospect Hutson helped the American defense slow down Latvia's offense and logged a differential of zero in 14:07 of ice time.
Czechia 5 - Canada 2
Roy had three shots on goal in Canada's 5-2 loss against Czechia. The forward spent 13:13 on the ice.
Coming up
Kapanen and Finland will face Filip Mesar, the Canadiens' 2022 first-round pick, and Slovakia at 11:00 a.m. (ET) on Tuesday. Sweden (Engstrom) will also be back in action against Germany at 1:30 p.m. (ET). To finish the day, the Austrians will hope to count on the return of forward Rohrer to take on Czechia at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
