MONTREAL - The Canadiens logo is no stranger to hockey history, and now the iconic emblem is part of Internet history too.

The bleu-blanc-rouge crest could be found within the final state of
r/place
on Monday, just before the ephemeral online art installation went blank.
Not familiar with r/place?
It was a twice-of-its-kind collaborative art project on Reddit that debuted briefly in 2017 before making its four-day return this April.
Akin to a large digital whiteboard, or MS Paint in hyperdrive, it gave millions of users worldwide the opportunity to get creative together in real-time - with one notable caveat.
Users could only place one pixel at a time on the 2,000 by 2,000 pixel canvas, before triggering a 5-minute cooldown period until their next turn. Another wrinkle was that between turns, a user's pixel could be covered by any other user not in a cooldown period.
In other words, teamwork and a strong defense (sound familiar?) were required for success on the subreddit, making Habs fans' masterpiece all the more impressive.
Backdropped by the Quebec flag, the r/place Canadiens logo featured in a section of the canvas dedicated to La Belle Province. Located near the exact center of the artboard - talk about prime real estate - imagery surrounding the CH included the Nordiques logo, Chateau Frontenac, the Olympic Stadium, a can of maple syrup, the Bonhomme Carnaval, poutine, and more.

This isn't the first time Habs fans on Reddit leave their mark on the world. In 2018, users from
r/Habs
raised funds to put up a MTL❤31 billboard IRL in honor of Carey Price.
