MONTREAL -- Montreal Canadiens general manager, Kent Hughes, announced on Saturday that defenseman Jeff Petry and forward Ryan Poehling were traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Mike Matheson and a fourth-round pick in 2023.

A 6-foot-2, 188-pound rearguard, Matheson amassed 11 goals and 20 assists in 74 games with the Penguins last season, before adding one goal and five assists in seven playoff games.
Selected 23rd overall by the Florida Panthers in 2012, the Pointe-Claire, QC native has 138 points (49 goals, 89 assists) in 417 career NHL games.
Petry was acquired from the Oilers on March 2, 2015. He amassed 70 goals and 178 assists in 508 games with the Canadiens.
Drafted 25th overall by Montreal in 2017, Poehling scored 13 goals and added nine assists in 85 career NHL games.
