20230522-worldchampionship-day11

MONTREAL - Justin Barron was the lone Canadiens representative in action at the 2023 IIHF World Championship on Monday.

Here's a recap of their respective performances:

CANADA 2 - 3 NORWAY (SO)

The Canadian comeback was not to be on Victoria Day at the World Championship.

The Norwegians surrendered a two-goal lead when Lawson Crouse tied the game with 12 seconds remaining, but the Nordic nation earned their redemption in the shootout.

Four goals on five attempts in the skills competition was enough for Norway, who registered their second win at the tournament.

Sam Montembeault did not start for Team Canada.

Defenseman Justin Barron recorded one shot on goal in 9:17 of ice time.

DENMARK 1 - 4 SWEDEN

Denmark opened the scoring on Monday, but that was all the offense they would get against Sweden, who scored four unanswered goals to escape victorious in the all-Nordic matchup.

Habs prospect Frederik Dichow, who left Saturday's game following a collision, was not in uniform for the Danes.

Coming up

Canada will look to redeem themselves on Tuesday when they square off with the Czechs at 9:20 a.m. ET at Arena Riga. The winner will finish second in Group B ahead of Thursday's quarterfinal.

Meanwhile, in Tampere, Sean Farrell, Lane Hutson, Luke Tuch and the rest of the United States' squad will battle for first place in Group A when the puck drops versus Sweden.

Finally, Joel Armia and the Finns will close the preliminary round against Denmark at 1:20 p.m.

Dichow's status remains in question ahead of Tuesday's contest.
