BOSTON - The Bruins landed 40 shots on goal but were shutout, 1-0, by the New Jersey Devils in the finale of their three-game homestand on Sunday night at TD Garden. Kyle Palmieri netted the winner for the Devils with 4:37 remaining in regulation.
Boston has now lost three of four games (1-2-1) to the Devils this season, including the last two on Causeway Street.
"We had enough looks around the net to generate a couple goals tonight," said Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy. "I think a lot of pucks hit [Devils goalie Scott Wedgewood]. I think he made some big saves, obviously, especially in the third period. I think we did a little better job attacking with our forward group against their D as the game went on.
"We just didn't finish anything. You're not gonna win if you don't put some goals on the board."

Searching for Offense

The Bruins had a bevy of chances over the final two minutes with Tuukka Rask (24 saves) on the bench for an extra attacked but were unable to bury one by Wedgewood, who was making his first start since Jan. 30. Boston has scored just five goals in four games against the Devils this season, not including the shootout winner in the season opener.
"I don't think we attacked their D enough," said Cassidy. "We had some guys in our lineup if we look back, they probably didn't have real strong offensive games…with the Devils this year, we haven't scored. We just haven't scored against them.
"The first game against them, I thought we had enough offense to score three, four, five goals. I think the next night we lose, one gets called back. For whatever reason, we haven't had a lot of puck luck against them. We need a little more will. And the goaltending's been good against us.
"At the end of the day, we've defended well against them, just haven't done the part on offense."

No Carryover

Boston was unable to carry over the momentum and emotion from Friday night's big win over the Washington Capitals and has now gone nearly a month without consecutive victories. The Bruins, who are 3-5-1 over their last nine games, have not won two in a row since Feb. 10 and 12 against the New York Rangers.
"It's our job to get up and come ready to play and bring our energy for this one, especially against a team who's not up in there in the standings, but they've had our number this year," said Charlie Coyle. "There's been a few games against them where for some reason or another we're not ready from the start, I guess. We have to be. We have to play like something big is on the line, and that's the case. It's two points up for grabs each night.
"We have to make sure we come ready to go and get ready for puck drop, play the way we did the other night. It's not always gonna be pretty, it's not always gonna be perfect. But we've got to find a way and do the right things."
