The 23-year-old forward is having a career year thanks in no small part to his electrifying speed on the ice. His 17 goals and 42 points entering the All-Star break both lead the team.
Kyrou is no stranger to speed challenges. In 2019, he competed in the AHL's Fastest Skater challenge as a member of the San Antonio Rampage. It took an AHL-record time of 13.251 to beat Kyrou, who placed second with a time of 13.520. Kyrou's time would have placed fourth at the NHL contest that season.
Kyrou will hope to dethrone Edmonton's Connor McDavid, the winner of three consecutive competitions from 2017-19. The star-studded field also includes Winnipeg's Kyle Connor, Los Angeles' Adrian Kempe, the New York Rangers' Chris Kreider, Washington's Evgeny Kuznetsov, Detroit's Dylan Larkin and Colorado's Cale Makar.
In addition to the Fastest Skater competition, the NHL All-Star Skills event on Friday will include the traditional save streak, hardest shot, breakaway challenge and accuracy shooting contests. Two brand-new events will also make their debut: the Discover NHL Fountain Face-off, taking place in the famous Bellagio Fountains, and the Las Vegas 21 in '22, a blackjack-inspired shooting challenge.
Each event's winner will receive a cash prize of $30,000.
Tune in Friday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN to watch Kyrou race around the ice against the League's top speedsters. The All-Star Game itself will take place Saturday at 2 p.m CT and will air on ABC.
