Joel Hofer scores in Calder Cup Playoffs

While the St. Louis Blues were busy finishing off the Minnesota Wild in Game 6 of their first-round series on Thursday, one of the club's goalie prospects was having his own unforgettable night.
With a 4-2 lead to protect in Game 2 of a Calder Cup Playoffs matchup against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Blues goalie prospect Joel Hofer got control of the puck behind his own net, saw an empty-net across the ice, and scored.

"I told myself, don't go for it," Hofer told reporters after the game. "It's the playoffs, obviously a big game, like preserve the lead kind of thing. But I got the puck, handled it well, had more time than I thought and thought 'screw it, go for it!'"
Hofer's goal helped the Springfield Thunderbirds to a 6-2 win in the game and a 2-0 series lead in the Atlantic Division semifinals. Hofer became the 18th goalie in AHL history to score a goal and just the second in league history in the AHL's postseason.
Hofer was drafted by the Blues in the fourth round (No. 107 overall) at the 2018 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut on Nov. 4, 2021 in San Jose, stopping 23 shots in a 5-3 win against the Sharks.
