Trailing 4-1 with ten minutes remaining in the game, the Blackhawks looked for a fighting chance to try make a comeback in the third period. Max Domi would have a two-goal night to put the team closer but simply wasn't enough to past Connor McDavid and the Oilers.
Following their 5-4 loss to Edmonton, Domi believes the team battled harder in tonight's game but simply couldn't hold out the dynamic duo of McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
"I thought we did a much better job tonight at battling and [give] those guys greater chances like that off the rush they're going to capitalize on it," Domi said. "If you give those kinds of players that much time with the puck, they are going to make you pay and that's kind of the story tonight."

'TREAT EVERY SHIFT LIKE IT'S YOUR LAST'

Heading into the third, the Blackhawks began to change their momentum after Domi scored his first goal of the night on the team's power play to decrease the Oilers' lead by two goals. From there, Chicago began to create more shooting chances but were still outshot, 41-25.
Head coach Luke Richardson stated that the team continues to bring that fighting effort in the third to try and make that comeback effort. However, he feels it can be challenging to bring that same battling energy in the first period while facing a team like Edmonton.
"I think we're playing forceful and we're taking chances because we're behind and I don't think you can do that against this team," Richardson said. "I think we give them way too many outnumber chances as it is. I think we're still playing hard early in the game but maybe in a more conservative way by feeling out a team like this with two special players that we got to make sure we know where they are at all times."

Domi described the feeling as playing with more emotion to bring into the first period. The team trusts the process but if they can start their shooting mentality earlier in the game then they can have a higher chance of securing a victory.
"We know in this room that we believe in this team," Domi said. "We just got to go out there and we've have to treat every shift like it's your last. Treat it like a game seven, and you do that you're going to get a chance to win."

ENTWISTLE, KATCHOUK BUILDING CONFIDENCE

MacKenzie Entwistle and Boris Katchouk both recorded their first goals of the season to help put Chicago on the board. Teammate Reese Johnson tallied his first assist of the season bring a combined total of four points (2G, 2G) from the fourth line.

"It was nice to see," Richardson said. "It's hard when you don't play a lot of minutes and stay involved in the game, but they really battled tonight and played physical and did a great job in the offensive zone."
For Entwistle, he stated the frustration he has felt before tonight's goal of not being able to contribute offensively. However, he also feels the offensive production brought a boost of confidence to their line and hopes it will carry over into the team's road trip.
"We as a line needed something and tonight was that little confidence booster for us, so it's nice," Entwistle said. "I think it's good for our line to get some confidence and to get rolling a little bit."
