For most high schools in Illinois, a trip to the quarterfinals of the Illinois State High School Hockey Championships would be a successful season. But New Trier isn't most high schools and the Trevians' early exit last season has only upped the drama of their United Center return in 2019.
The Blackhawks will host the 2019 Illinois State High School Hockey Championships, presented by Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Chevy Dealers, at the United Center on Friday, March 22. Fans can purchase tickets here to watch New Trier battle Loyola in the second game of the tournament at 7:30 p.m.
For the eighth consecutive year, the Boys' State Championship tilt will be broadcast in high-definition on NBC Sports Chicago and streamed live on NBCSportsChicago.com.
New Trier cruised past Saint Viator Hockey 5-1 on Monday night in Bensenville to set up a matchup with defending champs Loyola in the state title game. After a tight first period in which they led 1-0 at the first intermission, New Trier overwhelmed the Lions and dominated the game on both ends of the ice.
In three games of state tournament play this season, the Trevians have yet to allow more than one goal in a game.
When they arrive at the United Center next Friday, New Trier will have their eyes on a 15th state title and their first since 2017. Playing North Shore rivals Loyola in the title game is only fitting, as the top-ranked teams in the state tournament will meet with a championship on the line.
With the New Trier Girls Varsity team also heading to the United Center and playing Fenwick in the 4:30 p.m. game, the Trevians could claim two state titles next weekend.
