Getting to the United Center for the Illinois State High School Hockey Championships is hard enough. Getting there two years in a row? The New Trier Trevians made it look easy, as the Girls Varsity squad clinched their second championship appearance in a row with a 4-2 win over Loyola Academy on Thursday night in Bensenville.

The Blackhawks will host the 2019 Illinois State High School Hockey Championships, presented by Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Chevy Dealers, at the United Center on Friday, March 22. Fans can purchase tickets here to watch New Trier battle Fenwick in the first game of the tournament at 4:30 p.m.

The Trevians will find themselves in a strange position at the United Center, as the defending state champions come into the title game as underdogs against top-ranked Fenwick.

The Friars are looking for their first Girls Varsity championship in school history, while New Trier will look to match last year's dominant run to a state title. In the 2018 Illinois state tournament, the Trevians outscored their opponents 18-4 on the road to a championship.

The only team that gave them trouble in 2018 was a tough Loyola squad, as the Ramblers took New Trier to double overtime in the state tournament a season ago. After taking care of Loyola in regulation on Thursday night, the Trevians are looking as dangerous as ever heading into the state title game.
