The Blackhawks dropped a back-and-forth tilt against the Columbus Blue Jackets on a snowy Thursday night at home, 7-4.
Philipp Kurashev and Ryan Carpenter notched multi-point nights with a goal and an assist each, with MacKenzie Entwistle and Alex DeBrincat finding the net as well in the loss. Arvid Soderblom made 30 stops in his second start of the season.

BLACKHAWK OF THE GAME: After being a healthy scratch on Monday night, Kurashev netted his second career multi-point game (1G, 1A) in the first period of action. Coincidentally, his lone other multi-point outing (1G, 1A) also came against Columbus on Jan. 31, 2021.
STAT OF THE NIGHT: With a third-period assist, Patrick Kane tied Denis Savard for second in Blackhawks all-time assists at 719. The duo trail only Stan Mikita at 926 helpers.
UP NEXT: The Blackhawks are right back to action on Friday night at the United Center as the Dallas Stars make their first visit of the season.

Columbus opened the scoring on the game's first power play as Boone Jenner batted home a rebound from the slot in tight. Arvid Soderblom made a pad stop on an initial shot from Jakub Voracek, but right into the reach of Jenner, who made contact about a foot off the ice for the 1-0 lead.

1st - 7:11 - Yegor Chinakhov (Gustav Nyquist, Cole Sillinger)

The visitors doubled the lead just 13 seconds later in the opening period. Cole Sillinger got a stick in the passing lane to interrupt an Erik Gustafsson pass attempt and deflect it to Gustav Nyquist nearby. Nyquist quickly found Yegor Chinakhov streaking down the weak side, where the winger tucked a shot just inside the post for a 2-0 advantage.

1st - 10:24 - Philipp Kurashev (Dominik Kubalik, Kirby Dach) -- PP

Chicago got on the board on their own first power play of the night a short time later to make it a 2-1 game. From the near-side circle, Kirby Dach fed a cross-ice pass to Dominik Kubalik at the opposite circle. Kubalik put a quick pass to the back post for a Philipp Kurashev to redirect home past Elvis Merzlikins.

The Blackhawks pulled even less than four minutes later in transition. Philipp Kurashev regrouped just outside the offensive zone blue line with a pass to Brett Connolly along the wall, who astutely sprung Ryan Carpenter on a partial breakaway down the weak side. The centerman popped home his first of the season for a 2-2 game.

1st - 16:55 - Max Domi (Yegor Chinakhov)

Columbus answered a short time later to regain the lead. Yegor Chinakhov picked off a deflected dump-in attempt from Dominik Kubalik while the Blackhawks were in the middle of a line change. Chinakhov banked a pass off the near-side wall to Max Domi in behind the Blackhawks defensive corps with the centerman putting a shot into the top corner on a partial break for a 3-2 score.

2nd - 0:09 - Patrik Laine

Patrik Laine once again made it a two-goal game just seconds into the middle frame as he threw a puck from the corner towards the Chicago goal, squeaking under the pad of Arvid Soderblom and just a hair over the goal line. Initially ruled a non-goal on the ice, the call was reversed after a lengthy video review.

2nd - 18:02 - MacKenzie Entwistle (Calvin de Haan, Ryan Carpenter)

The Blackhawks pulled within a goal again thanks to the second goal of the game from the fourth line. Off a cycle in the Columbus end, Ryan Carpenter hit Calvin de Haan at the point with a pass. de Haan put a shot towards goal that deflected off a mass of bodies in front and right to MacKenzie Entwistle at the side of the goal for a tap in and a 4-3 game.

3rd - 7:58 - Patrik Laine

Columbus scored again in third period off a Boone Jenner faceoff win. Patrik Laine collected the puck off the draw, walked to the top of the circle and slipped an unassuming shot that rose over the shoulder of Arvid Soderblom for a 5-3 advantage.

3rd - 8:58 - Alex DeBrincat (Patrick Kane, Seth Jones)

The back-and-forth continued exactly a minute later as Alex DeBrincat netted his 29th of the year in the slot. Patrick Kane slipped a no-look backhander from behind the goal to the winger alone in front, where DeBrincat put a shot on goal and followed up he own rebound for a backhand tally and a 5-4 game.

The Blue Jackets again answered a short time later off a scramble around the Blackhawks net. Through a mass of bodies in front, Oliver Bjorkstrand elevated the puck over a sprawled Arvid Soderblom in the crease for a 6-4 score.
