BLOG: Stalock Named Bill Masterton Memorial Finalist
The goaltender is one of three finalists for the NHL award
The NHL announced on Tuesday that goaltender Alex Stalock was named one of three finalists for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
This is the first time that the netminder has been named a finalist of the award in his NHL career. He joins Arizona's Clayton Keller and Pittsburgh's Kris Letang as the top three vote getters for the award. Since 1968, the Bill Masterton Award is given to the player that best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
Before joining the Blackhawks in July 2022, the 35-year-old goaltender missed the majority of the 2020-21 season due to myocarditis after complications from COVID-19 and returned to play in 2021-22 in the AHL and only made one NHL start with the San Jose Sharks.
Since his return to the league, Stalock played in 27 matchups with 24 starts producing a 9-15-2 record, a 3.01 goals-against average and .908 save percentage.
Although he missed some time throughout the year battling concussions and oculomotor dysfunction, his teammates and coaches boasted about the positivity and high energy he brought into the locker room despite his setbacks.
The NHL Awards will be held on Monday, June 26 at Bridegstone Arena starting at 7 p.m. CT and will be aired on TNT in the U.S. and Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada.
