In tonight's contest against the Vancouver Canucks, Luke Philp will make his NHL debut after
being called up on Monday
.
He received the call from Rockford's General Manager Mark Bernard a few days ago when he learned that he would join the Blackhawks' road trip to western Canada. Although, he didn't have the conventional path to the NHL, he still considers it a big accomplishment.
"I was pretty thrilled when I got [the call] and I'm excited," Philp said. "I'm excited and ready for tonight."

Currently, he is tied for third on the IceHogs in goals with 14 and ranks fourth in points with 30 throughout 31 games this season.
He described his playing style as a two-way forward that likes to play a fast game. After his recent offensive success, he credits his linemates on being able to produce and be reliable in different situations.
"We've been playing pretty well, offensively, getting lots of different looks." Philp said. "I'm playing with some pretty good line mates down there and we've been able to produce offensively as well as being a reliable line in all situations."
Philp will replace Tyler Johnson in the lineup after the Blackhawks placed the veteran on injured reserve on Monday due to an ankle injury. The 27-year-old forward will play alongside Jason Dickinson and Sam Lafferty while Andreas Athanasiou will join the first line with Patrick Kane and Max Domi.
Head coach Luke Richardson wants to try and keep lines similar after the team has been playing successful recently over the last few games. Tonight, he'll start the rookie forward on the third line to kick the game off and see how he progresses from there.
"Well, he's supposedly been playing really solid for about a month down there and the team, ironically, was going well, up until the last few games," Richardson said. "So, [he could] give us a little spark. It'll be his first game up here with us this year and probably wants to give us a good inspirational showing, so we're looking forward to that."
Heading into the matchup against Vancouver, he is ready to jump into action and do whatever the coaches need from him.
"I'm willing to do whatever coaches want from me, so I'll be ready," Philp said.
