SuterPets

Each month, Wild.com will feature a Minnesota Wild player and his pet(s). This series also appears in the February issue of Wild Magazine.
Veteran defenseman Ryan Suter loves his dogs. The Wisconsin native considers Favre, his 9-year-old golden retriever named for the former Packers quarterback, to be his "best buddy."Get to know a little bit more about Favre and Hunter and just how important they are to Suter.

Wild.com's Tricia Luna: Do you have a favorite pet memory, past or current? Did you always have pets growing up?
Suter: No favorites, I love them. The oldest one, he's my best buddy. Yes and no, my mom always had little teacup poodles. I was never really a dog person, and then once we got them, I fell in love with them. Every time you walk in, they're excited to see you, it makes you feel good.
TL: Do your pets do any interesting tricks?
RS: He has three legs. He can walk on three legs. He had to have one of his legs removed last year; he had cancer. Just normal stuff dogs do, he plays fetch and he listens.

TL: Favorite thing to do together?
RS: Snuggle them, cuddle with them. They're always in a good mood. They never talk back to you. It's fun to be around.
TL: Do you allow your pet to have any people food? If so what's the one thing they go bonkers for? (i.e. popcorn, chips, etc.)
RS: If I have steak, sometimes I'll give them some steak, or if we have some salmon, I'll give them some of that, too. The young one is crazy, he's nuts. He'll jump up on the table; he's out of control. But the old one, Favre, he knows when I'm having a steak. He'll stay around me so he gets a few pieces after.
