hertl-hat-trick

There was no way the Sharks were going to go into the NHL All-Star Break and ensuing bye week on a loss. Not if Tomas Hertl had anything to do about it.
On Tuesday, January 22, Hertl scored a hat trick in a dramatic 7-6 overtime win over the Washington Capitals.

The second goal was a little later in the game; around midway through the third period. Down by two, the Sharks were also on a power play. Brent Burns had the puck at the blue line, and passed it to Logan Couture. Couture passed it to Pavelski, who quickly passed it to Hertl, who scored on a goal that looked almost exactly like his first one.

Seriously, it's not just the same clip playing twice.
The final goal of the hat trick was really the piece de resistance. After Evander Kane dramatically tied the game with one second left in the third period, the Sharks and Capitals were in overtime.
And Hertl decided the Sharks were going to get that second point.
Tomas Hertl, Timo Meier, and Logan Couture were all on the ice for the three-on-three overtime. Hertl carried the puck through the neutral zone, before passing back to the trailing Couture. Couture passed the puck back to Hertl, who buried it for the hat trick and - more importantly - the win.

This was Tomas Hertl's third career hat trick, and first since… well, last Tuesday. Yep, after not scoring a hat trick since his third career game, Hertl has managed to score two in the span of a week.
Hertl's hat trick is the first in San Jose Sharks history to include an overtime goal.
