The Sharks finish up their Western Canadian road trip tonight with a 2017 playoffs rematch against the Edmonton Oilers. Hoping to grab five out of six points on this trip, the Sharks will face the Oilers for the first time since last April when Connor McDavid and the Oilers beat the Sharks in six games.
The last game the Sharks played was another comeback in what has been a trend for the Sharks in recent weeks. Despite not completing the comeback and ending in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Canucks, the Sharks walked away with a point and also another milestone on their roster. Forward Joel Ward registered his 300th NHL point in his 700th game with an assist on Burns' second goal in Vancouver.
In what has become an unfortunate trend, the Sharks left Vancouver with an injury to a key player. The last time they were in Vancouver, Joe Thornton suffered his ACL and MCL injury. This time, Logan Couture left the game with an upper body injury and is already ruled out for today's game.
The Sharks power play has been on a steady rise as of late. Brent Burns first goal last game against the Canucks marked the eighth power play goal for the Sharks in five games. San Jose now ranks 11th over all on the power play and continue their penalty kill dominance, ranking second overall in the league.
