At the Horn | Sabres 5 – Blue Jackets 1

The Buffalo Sabres continued their preseason with a 5-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday at KeyBank Center.

Buffalo dressed its projected opening-night NHL lineup for the second exhibition, while Columbus brought a mix of NHL and AHL players. The Sabres goals came from Josh Norris, Noah Ostlund (twice), Conor Timmins and Tage Thompson.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen started in net for the Sabres and stopped all 13 shots through two periods. Colten Ellis again entered for the third and made 12 saves on 13 shots.

New Sabres defenseman Olen Zellweger was helped off the ice after a hit from Columbus’ Carson Soucy late in the second – he didn’t return for the third. Beck Malenstyn later fought Soucy to start a chippy third period.

And defenseman Mattias Samuelsson, shaken up after blocking a shot with his foot, took his last shift with 9:40 remaining in the second. Stay tuned to Sabres.com for updates on both defensemen.
