Predators Expand Little Preds Learn to Play

Nashville, Tenn. (October 3, 2016) - The Nashville Predators hockey program Little Preds Learn to Play has expanded its program past state lines. This program, which is conducted in partnership with the NHL and NHLPA, is a fun and effective way to learn hockey while engaging children to keep them lifelong hockey fans.
The Little Preds Learn to Play expansion to rinks in seven different cities include Antioch, Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee; Olive Branch, Mississippi; Decatur and Huntsville, Alabama; and Evansville, Indiana. During the 2017-18 season, it will also expand to the Atlanta area in Pelham and Owensboro, Georgia. In total, it is expected Little Preds Learn to Play will reach as many as 1,200 children.

"We are excited to see our Little Preds program grow as this is a direct reflection of the growth of hockey in our state," Senior Vice President of Ticket Sales, Premium Sales & Youth Hockey Nat Harden said. "In addition to the growth, we are excited about the large role our Predators alumni will play in introducing and teaching children to play."
Little Preds Learn to Play, which is partially funded by the NHL and NHLPA's Industry Growth Fund, is a multi-year, multi-city endeavor by the Nashville Predators and participating ice rinks. Each session runs for six to eight weeks, and is designed for boys and girls ages 4-8 who have never played hockey. Starting at just $85 (costs vary from rink to rink), participants get weekly on-ice instruction and are outfitted from head to toe with all the necessary hockey equipment to begin playing. Upon completion, participants get to keep the equipment.

The Learn to Play initiative was developed jointly by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association with the help of experts from USA Hockey and Hockey Canada, to offer more families a chance to experience everything that makes youth hockey so rewarding. Learning to play hockey is more than just learning a game. More than skating, passing and stick-handling, hockey is about responsibility, respect and teamwork. As children learn the skills needed to succeed on the ice, they also build and solidify important character traits needed to succeed off the ice.
