Teams around the League have symbolic items to give out to a player of the game or someone who sacrificed for the team to get the win. Some iconic ones include the broadway hat for the Rangers and fireman hat for the Flames.
Edmonton's new item? A Harley Davidson motorcycle helmet. Veteran winger Matt Hendricks came up with the idea and brought it in.
"It's the first time it's been in the locker room," said Talbot, who wore the helmet after a 31-save performance against the Hurricanes. "Hendo picked it up at the store the other day and sent out a text to the leadership group here and we all agreed it is a good symbol for what we want to be this year. We want to be a tight-knit group. We want to be a team that's got each other's backs and just a team that really sticks together. We all agreed when he put it in those terms that it made a lot of sense."
Talbot is the first Oilers player to wear the helmet after a win, and will help select the next recipient after the next win.
