On Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, the Edmonton Oilers honour former captain Kevin Lowe by permanently retiring his number 4 jersey, in recognition of his election to the Hockey Hall of Fame, Class of 2020.
Lowe joins fellow HHOF inductees and Oilers teammates Glenn Anderson, Paul Coffey, Grant Fuhr, Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri and Mark Messier in having his number raised to the rafters of Rogers Place.
A defenceman, Lowe is often referred to as the foundation of Edmonton's five Stanley Cup dynasty from 1984 to 1990, with his rock-solid play on the ice and calm leadership off, providing guidance for a team of flashy superstars.
