Jets team scope

The Winnipeg Jets are on a three-game losing streak (0-2-1) following a 6-2 loss at the Calgary Flames on Saturday. They are 5-9-2 on the road this season and 4-8-1 in their past 13 games overall. "What we struggled with here last night is going to present itself over and over again tonight with the style of game we're going to face," coach Paul Maurice said of the Edmonton Oilers' speed. "We want to make sure we deal with it." Winnipeg lost its two previous games against Edmonton this season. "The challenge tonight is separating what we're going through and dealing with our performance last night and realizing seven days ago we were feeling pretty good about who we were," Maurice said. "The peaks and valleys of a season. We don't over-celebrate the wins here, so we have to make sure we're not carrying the losses any harder than we do. We didn't get too high. We've been a little low in the tank lately, so we have to play a little different here tonight and not necessarily try to trade speed with this team." Forward Nikolaj Ehlers scored in the third period against Calgary to end a 15-game goal drought. Center Mark Scheifele leads the Jets with 28 points (14 goals, 14 assists) in 28 games this season.

Oilers team scope

The Oilers are on a four-game losing streak (0-1-3) and return home after a three-game road trip. The Oilers won the previous two games against the Jets this season. Edmonton defeated Winnipeg 3-0 on Oct. 23 and 6-3 on Dec. 1. "They've played a lot of hockey and so have we," captain Connor McDavid said. "We're fresh off an off day and they played [Saturday] night so we definitely have to get on them early and make sure they're working all the time." McDavid leads the NHL in scoring with 38 points and has seven goals and 19 points in his past 12 games. Center Leon Draisaitl is on a three-game point streak (3-2-5) and has 10 goals and 18 points in his past 14 games. "He's been great, he's playing some of the best hockey I've ever seen him play over the last 10-game stretch here," McDavid said. "He's been awesome for us. He's such a big man that when he gets moving, he has so much talent that he's a pretty scary threat." Sunday begins a three-game homestand for the Oilers. "Obviously we would have liked to come with more points that we did [on road trip], but we just have to move on," defenseman Adam Larsson said.
