Jacob Melanson will be out indefinitely for the Kraken because of an aneurysm.
The forward sustained an upper-body injury in a 6-1 win at the Calgary Flames in the team's opening game of the season on Oct. 1. On Saturday, it was announced that it had been diagnosed as an anterior mediastinum hematoma with vascular pseudo aneurysm.
"Jacob will continue to be evaluated and monitored closely by the medial staff in Seattle through the healing process for a gradual progression to return to hockey," the Kraken said in a statement.
Melanson, who had one shot on goal in 9:31 of ice time against the Flames, had five points (two goals, three assists) and 32 penalty minutes in 36 games for Seattle last season.
The 23-year-old, who was selected by Seattle in the fifth round (No. 131) of the 2021 NHL Draft, has five points in 38 NHL games over three seasons.
