The Blackhawks tried everything in their might to mount a comeback over the Colorado Avalanche for the second time this season at home, but fell in a wild affair at home, 6-4.
Patrick Kane and Brandon Hagel each had a pair of goals on the night, while Marc-Andre Fleury made 21 stops in the loss.

2nd - 1:15 - Gabriel Landeskog (Cale Makar, Samuel Girard) -- PP

After killing off Colorado's opening power play in the first period, the Avs found the twine on their second attempt just 75 seconds into the middle frame for a 1-0 lead. Working the full width of the ice up top, Samuel Girard on one wall hit Cale Makar at the center of the point, who then promptly found Gabriel Landeskog at the opposite circle for a one-timer that snuck under the bar for the game's first tally.

2rd - 16:04 - J.T. Compher (Tyson Jost, Logan O'Connor)

Chicago negated a 2-0 Colorado lead earlier in the frame with a successful coach's challenge, but J.T. Compher made it a two-goal lead for real before the period's end. Logan O'Connor won a puck back off his own dump-in in the corner and hit Tyson Jost behind the goal. The winger walked into the corner, then spun back towards goal and fired a pass into the slot for a Compher one-timer that beat Marc-Andre Fleury under the arm for a 2-0 lead.

3rd - 1:16 - Gabriel Landeskog (Mikko Rantanen, Nazem Kadri) -- PP

The Avs power play struck again early in the third for a three-goal lead. A Mikko Rantanen one-timer from the circle was turned aside by Marc-Andre Fleury, but directly into Gabriel Landeskog at the side of the net tangled with Seth Jones at the edge of the paint. The puck bounced off the Colorado forward and in for a 3-0 score.

3rd - 1:38 - Brandon Hagel (Connor Murphy, Dylan Strome)

Brandon Hagel netted a goal for a second straight game to get the Blackhawks on the board 22 seconds after the Gabriel Landeskog tally. Dylan Strome moved the puck to Connor Murphy the point off a Hagel forecheck. Hagel drove the slot as Murphy put the puck towards goal, tipping home the shot for a 3-1 score.

3rd - 2:18 - Patrick Kane (Erik Gustafsson)

Chicago pulled within a goal 40 seconds later as Patrick Kane started the play at one end of the ice and finished it at the other. Kane swung around the back of his own net with the puck and led the rush to the Colorado blue line, where he dished a pass off to Erik Gustafsson on the boards. The defenseman skated in and threaded a hard pass back to a driving Kane in the slot, who redirected the puck over the shoulder of Pavel Francouz for a 3-2 game.

3rd - 2:54 - Alex Newhook (Nazem Kadri)

Colorado halted the momentum to regain the two-goal lead not even 30 seconds later on a 2-on-1 rush. Nazem Kadri sent a backhanded saucer pass across the slot into the path of Alex Newhook, who batted at the puck as it landed on the ice and beat a sliding Marc-Andre Fleury inside the post to make it 4-2.

Patrick Kane netted his second of the night with a show of patience in tight, waiting out Pavel Francouz as he skated with the puck across the top of the crease, lettiing the goaltender sprawl in the crease before elevating a shot above him and into the net for a 4-3 score.

With Marc-Andre Fleury on the bench for the extra attacker, Nazem Kadri got in behind the Blackhawks defense for a tap-in 5-3 lead.

With Chicago searching for the equalizer once again, Cale Makar sent the puck the full length of the ice into an empty net to put the wild third period to bed, 6-4.
