Penguins at Blackhawks | Recap

CHICAGO – Connor Bedard had an assist in his first game of the season, helping the Chicago Blackhawks to a 5-3 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins at United Center on Tuesday.

Bedard missed Chicago’s first six games recovering from offseason shoulder surgery for an injury sustained in a training session on July 2 and was initially expected to be out until November. He had been skating with the team in a noncontact jersey since Oct. 5.

Teuvo Teravainen had two goals and an assist, and rookie Roman Kantserov scored twice for the Blackhawks (2-5-0), who had lost two in a row. Spencer Knight made 24 saves.

Patrick Kane picked up his 894th career assist, tying him with Phil Housley for the all-time lead among American-born players.

Sidney Crosby scored his first two goals of the season, and Sergei Murashov made 15 saves for the Penguins (3-3-1). Erik Karlsson had two assists.

The Blackhawks took a 1-0 lead at 28 seconds of the first period. Anton Frondell picked up the puck along the goal line and made a quick pass in front to Teravainen, who put the puck past Murashov’s stick.

Crosby tied it for the Penguins at 6:57. He took a pass in the neutral zone from Karlsson, skated into the offensive zone and scored on a wrist shot from the right face-off circle.

Kantserov scored on the power play at 17:50 with a one-timer from the slot off Bedard’s touch pass from the left circle to give the Blackhawks a 2-1 lead.

Defenseman Artyom Levshunov set up Kantserov’s second goal of the game at 10:32 of the second period. Levshunov skated down the right side and passed the puck to Kantserov, who tapped the puck in while fighting off the Penguins’ Ben Kindel. Kane picked up the secondary assist, moving him into a tie with Housley.

Nick Robertson brought the Penguins to within 3-2 at 17:51, poking in a rebound after Knight could not hold the puck after a shot by Blake Lizotte.
