Flyers team scope

The Philadelphia Flyers are expected to start Steve Mason in goal for the eighth time in nine games. He made 45 saves through overtime and eight of nine in the shootout in a 3-2 win against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday that gave the Flyers back-to-back wins for the second time this season. "Is two games a winning streak?" Mason said after the game. "We'll take it. We have to find a consistent level of play that enables us to pile up the wins." Defenseman Brandon Manning will miss his third consecutive game because of an upper-body injury. He participated in the optional morning skate and could be available to play by the weekend. In their first game against the Senators, on Nov. 15, the Flyers lost the lead when the Senators' Kyle Turris tied the game with 1:59 remaining in the third period and the Flyers lost 3-2 in a shootout. Against the Bruins, center Claude Giroux scored his first goal in 10 games. It came on the power play and was Giroux's 12th power-play point, which leads the NHL. The Flyers have the No. 2 power play in the League at 24.7 percent (21-for-85). They also are second on the road at 28.1 percent (9-for-32).

In his most recent start he allowed five goals on 40 shots in a 5-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Nov. 17. Forward Bobby Ryan is out because of a finger injury; replacing him will be forward Max McCormick, who will play his fifth game of the season. Defenseman Marc Methot will not play after sustaining an undisclosed injury during a 5-4 home loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. Fredrik Claesson, who will play his seventh game of the season, will start in Methot's spot with captain Erik Karlsson. Since being put together during a 4-3 win against the Montreal Canadiens on Nov. 22, the line of Mike Hoffman, Derick Brassard and Mark Stone has combined for nine goals and 10 assists in five games.
