Blackhawks' Panik in for Hossa; Leafs' Kadri possible

CHICAGO -- Forward Richard Panik will get the first chance to replace Marian Hossa for the Chicago Blackhawks when they play his former team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, at United Center on Monday.

Panik, who was traded to Chicago by the Maple Leafs on Jan. 3, skated in Hossa's right wing spot on the top line during line rushes at the morning skate. He'll start out playing with left wing Andrew Shaw and captain Jonathan Toews.
"He can score," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "He's had some stretches in games where it looks like he can play up there. He hasn't had much of a chance up there. [He] played a shift or two last game and did all right. Hopefully he can stay there."
Panik, who has three goals and an assist in 14 games with the Blackhawks, is staying low key about the increased ice time and role.
"I don't feel any pressure," he said. "It's the game of hockey that I've played since I was a kid. It's a bigger opportunity for me and hopefully we'll make some plays in our zone, make some scoring chances and score goals."
The Blackhawks recalled rookie forward Vincent Hinostroza from Rockford of the American Hockey League on Sunday. He will play right wing on the fourth line.
Hossa, who has a lower-body injury, was injured late in the second period of Chicago's 3-2 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday. He was seen walking with a slight limp in the hallway outside the locker rooms after the morning skate and is expected to be out for at least two weeks.
Hinostroza had 27 points (10 goals) in 41 games to lead Rockford in scoring in his first full professional season. The 21-year old forward spent the past two seasons at the University of Notre Dame and made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks in October.
He's more confident now.
"For me, it was just a confidence thing and a puck-management thing," Hinostroza said. "I worked with [IceHogs coach Ted Dent] a lot with that. He's helped me a lot, and I think I'm all set with the pro game. I understand it now and I've really bought into it."
Panik had 11 goals and 17 points in 76 games for the Maple Leafs last season, but didn't make them out of training camp this season. He only played for the Toronto Marlies of the AHL this season prior to the trade.
Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock declined to give a specific reason why Panik didn't make his roster.
"I don't think he lacked anything," Babcock said after Toronto's morning skate. "I think he's a big guy who skates real good. He's heavy and is playing well right now for [the Blackhawks]. He played well for us with the Marlies, so obviously when he was with the Marlies, [the front office] decided they wanted to try something else, so that's what they did."
Panik was traded for forward Jeremy Morin, who has yet to play for the Maple Leafs. Injuries prompted the Maple Leafs to recall Morin and rookie Brendan Leipsic from the Marlies on Saturday, but only Leipsic played. Morin was sent back to the AHL on Sunday.
Toronto might get top center Nazem Kadri back from a lower-body injury that cost him the past two games. Kadri participated in the morning skate, but will be a game-time decision. Forward Michael Grabner didn't get on the ice for the skate, but will play for the Maple Leafs, who have six players on injured reserve.
Goalie James Reimer will start for Toronto, which is playing the finale of a five-game road trip. Backup goalie Scott Darling will go for Chicago in his first start and third appearance since getting the nod at the Florida Panthers on Jan. 22.
