Shane Pinto scored 25 seconds into overtime to give the Ottawa Senators a 3-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets in the preseason opener for each team at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg on Sunday.
CJ Suess put the Jets ahead 2-1 at 2:13 of the second period, but Alex Formenton tied the game 2-2 at 12:17 of the third period. Formenton then set up Pinto's overtime goal. Ridly Greig gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead at 11:30 of the first period. Pierre-Luc Dubois tied it 1-1 on the power play with 37 seconds left in the first. Greig received a game misconduct and a major penalty for cross-checking Dubois at 10:31 of the second period. Anton Forsberg made 17 saves on 19 shots in 30:31 for the Senators, and Filip Gustavsson made the save on all 14 shots he faced in relief to earn the win. Eric Comrie made 24 saves for the Jets.
