Miller, Henrique help Ducks defeat Senators

ANAHEIM -- Ryan Miller made 29 saves for his 40th NHL shutout and Adam Henrique scored two goals to help the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-0 win against the Ottawa Senators at Honda Center on Wednesday.
Ondrej Kase also scored for Anaheim (12-11-6), which opened a three-game homestand after going 1-2-3 on a six-game road trip.

"We understood the stakes and we knew coming home would be difficult," Miller said. "I just wanted to get off to a good start and get through the first period. We seemed to build confidence in some situations and I thought we had a good second period."
Craig Anderson made 20 saves for Ottawa (9-11-6), which is 1-8-1 in its past 10 games and has been held to two goals or fewer nine times in that stretch.
"You never know exactly what's causing it and what's going on," Senators captain Erik Karlsson said. "When things aren't going your way, you try and look for answers that aren't there. You try and get out of your comfort zone and do different things, but at the end of the day you need to do the things you're good at and I think that we're starting to get to that."

Henrique gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead at 3:47 of the second period when he one-timed Rickard Rakell's feed from behind the net.
Henrique has a four-game point streak since being acquired from the New Jersey Devils on Nov. 30. He has two goals and three assists since the trade.
"We needed to jump on them right away," Henrique said. "I thought we came out and we got into our game with a lot of chances."
Kase made it 2-0 at 11:10 of the second period on a strong individual play. He cut across the crease with the puck and caused Anderson and Cody Ceci to bite before scoring on a a backhand shot.
"You're playing good teams every night and they're going to create their fair share of scoring chances," said Karlsson, who has gone 10 straight games without a point. "They capitalized on the few they got today and we couldn't. That's just the way the game is going to go sometimes."
Henrique scored an empty-net goal at 18:25 of the third period. He said the transition from New Jersey to Anaheim has gone smoothly.
"For me, the biggest thing was jumping in and playing right away, getting my legs under me and learning the system on the fly," he said. "The hockey language here is just a little different."
With 40 career shutouts, Miller moved into a tie for second with John Vanbiesbrouck and Frank Brimsek on the NHL's all-time list among U.S.-born goalies.
