NYR@EDM: Draisaitl goes five-hole for OT winner

EDMONTON -- Leon Draisaitl scored at 3:27 of overtime for the Edmonton Oilers, who rallied from twice down in the third period for a 6-5 win against the New York Rangers at Rogers Place on Friday.

Draisaitl won it when he beat Alexandar Georgiev five-hole off a cross-ice pass from Darnell Nurse. His goal came after Connor McDavid tied it 5-5 at 17:01 of the third, skating through four Rangers players and deking Georgiev before tucking the puck into an open net.
"I thought we did a great job coming out in the third and getting ourselves back in the game," McDavid said. "I didn't like that we gave one up to give them back the lead, but I thought [scoring] was a big moment, the crowd was really in the game, and it was an exciting night. I think it just kind of all escalated then."
Draisaitl, McDavid and Tyson Barrie each had a goal and two assists, Jesse Puljujarvi scored twice, and Nurse had three assists for Edmonton (9-1-0), which has won four straight. Mikko Koskinen made 20 saves.

Mika Zibanejad scored two goals, Filip Chytil and Chris Kreider each had a goal and an assist, and Georgiev made 33 saves for the Rangers (6-2-3).
"I think we did a good job getting the lead, we had a three-goal lead, and I think we did a good job up to that point," Zibanejad said. "I don't know if we get too passive and try to protect the lead in a little too much of a defensive way, but that one obviously stings. They have some good players that can make plays, but I think we just have to find a way to battle through that and end it there."
Chytil scored at 1:53 of the first period to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
Zach Hyman tied it 1-1 at 18:11, getting his own rebound off a point shot from Barrie.
Kevin Rooney gave New York a 2-1 lead at 2:52 of the second period following turnover inside Edmonton's zone by Warren Foegele.
Kreider pushed the lead to 3-1 at 4:11 with a shot from the right circle on a rush, and Zibanejad scored on the power play at 6:54 to make it 4-1.
"I'm disappointed no doubt, the way it happened. We played a great 35 minutes, then we sort of started watching them a little bit," Rangers coach Gerard Gallant said. "We were a little too passive. When you give teams time and space, they're going to make their plays, especially with their talent. We played too much in the D-zone the last 25 minutes of the game, and it caught up to us."
Puljujarvi cut it to 4-2 at 14:41 of the second, taking a stretch pass from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and scoring with a slap shot from the right circle on a power play.
"That gave them some good momentum," Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba said. "We had some good stretches on the PK, but giving up two on the PK, it's not a good night. We knew their PP was powerful coming in, and we wanted to do better than we did for sure."

NYR@EDM: Puljujarvi beats Georgiev with heavy shot

Barrie made it 4-3 at 1:00 of the third period with another power-play goal, and Puljujarvi tied it 4-4 at 3:35 on a rebound.
"The atmosphere was electric. For a game in November, it felt like a playoff game. It was just awesome," Hyman said. "It was really fun to be a part of, and when you win a game like that and be a team that doesn't give up and continues to press and believes in itself this early, it's just exciting to be a part of."
Zibanejad scored on an individual rush at 7:18 of the third period to put the Rangers ahead 5-4 before McDavid responded with his own individual play to force overtime.
"It was a fun game to be involved in," Edmonton coach Dave Tippett said. "There were lots of ebbs and flows in it. Koskinen has played so well over this stretch here, and we made some mistakes that cost us against him. But our guys hung in there and we found a way to win, and that's kind of what we've been talking about all year, find a way to win."
NOTE:McDavid extended his season-opening point streak to 10 games (eight goals, 14 assists).
