Serge Savard lights the torch

The crowd in Montreal was already hyped up, then Serge Savard made an appearance and pandemonium ensued.

Savard — a Hockey Hall of Famer who won seven Stanley Cup titles with the Montreal Canadiens — lit the torch before Game 4 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Bell Centre.

Fans gave Savard a raucous ovation as the energy — and pyrotechnics — got jacked up.

The Canadiens lead the first round series over Tampa Bay 2-1 with each of the first three games going to overtime.

Savard carries with him the history of the 1970s Canadiens dynasty, which saw the franchise win five Stanley Cups within the decade, including four in a row from 1976 to 1979.

The former defenseman was a crucial part of the team’s success during that time, even helping them to back-to-back Cup titles in 1968 and 1969.
