Ilya Samsonov was awarded a one-year, $3.55 million contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs by an independent arbitrator on Sunday.

The 26-year-old goalie had a salary arbitration hearing Friday. Samsonov was the second of 22 restricted free agents who filed for arbitration to have a hearing. He can be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

Samsonov was 27-10-5 with a 2.33 goals-against average, .919 save percentage and four shutouts in 42 regular-season games (40 starts) for the Maple Leafs last season and 4-4 with a 3.13 GAA and .898 save percentage in nine Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Samsonov, who became an unrestricted free agent after the 2021-22 season when he did not receive a qualifying offer from the Washington Capitals, signed with Toronto on July 13, 2022.

Selected by Washington in the first round (No. 22) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Samsonov is 79-32-13 with a 2.65 GAA, .908 save percentage and 10 shutouts in 131 regular-season games (119 starts) for the Capitals and Maple Leafs and 5-10 with a 3.06 GAA and .902 save percentage in the playoffs.
