Dylan Guenther scored the go-ahead goal at 9:21 of the third period, and the Arizona Coyotes defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, on Monday.
It was the preseason opener for each team. Guenther made his Coyotes debut after being the No. 9 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. Sean Walker gave Los Angeles a 1-0 lead at 8:53 of the second period. Loui Eriksson scored in his Arizona debut at 14:40 to tie it 1-1. He was acquired in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks on July 23. Josef Korenar played through the second period for the Coyotes and saved 18 of 19 shots. Anson Thornton made 17 saves in the third. Cal Petersen started for the Kings and saved 14 of 15 shots in 34:40. Matt Villalta made eight saves in 23:35.
