Welcome to the Gameday Blog, the one-stop shop for San Jose Sharks fans on every gameday. This blog will be updated throughout the day with news, lineup information, videos, and tweets, so be sure to check back as the day goes on.
The Sharks are coming off a three day break after wrapping up a three game homestead that saw the team in teal earn 5 out of a possible 6 points. Besides a dominating 5-0 win over the Ottawa Senators, the Sharks also had a pair of 3-0 comebacks that saw both games go to overtime. While the Sharks won the game against the Hurricanes, they did fall to the Minnesota Wild, the lone blemish on the homestand.
Tonight's opponent - the Calgary Flames - are also coming off a non-regulation loss to the Minnesota Wild, a 2-1 shootout loss. The Flames are currently tied with the Sharks in terms of standings points, but have two more losses.
Something encouraging with the Sharks recently is the team's improved play on special teams. Their penalty kill has been one of their strengths all season - it ranks second in the NHL in effectiveness and has scored the most shorthanded goals - but the power play has also been better. The team has scored two power play goals in each of the past three games, which has improved the power play to 19.6% - good for 13th in the NHL.
