DETROIT -- Mike Matheson scored at 2:02 of overtime, and the Florida Panthers defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 at Little Caesars Arena on Monday.
Matheson knocked in Nick Bjugstad's rebound after a turnover by Andreas Athanasiou. It was his first goal since April 6 in a 6-3 loss to the St. Louis Blues.

James Reimer made 34 saves for the Panthers, two days after giving up five goals in a 7-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

"Reimer was fantastic for us," Panthers forward Vincent Trocheck said. "We wouldn't have won that game without all those big saves."
Trocheck scored for Florida (12-14-4), which had lost four of five (1-2-2).
"This was a huge win for us," Jonathan Huberdeau said. "We needed to pick up some points, and to do it in a division game on the road is even better."

Henrik Zetterberg scored for the Red Wings (11-13-6), who are 1-5-4 in their past 10 games. Jimmy Howard made 27 saves.
"We have to figure out what we are doing well and what we aren't doing and work from there," Zetterberg said. "We did a lot of good things tonight, but we need those two points."
Detroit has scored four or more goals once in the past 11 games.
"We're creating chances, but we're not getting anything into the net," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "That's true for 5-on-5 play, and it is reflected in our power play as well. We've done a good job in the offensive zone in our last two games, but we've only scored two goals."
Zetterberg gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead at 18:27 of the first period, beating Reimer to end a NHL career-long 22-game goalless streak. The Detroit captain hadn't scored since Oct. 18, in a 6-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"It felt good to have that one go in," Zetterberg said.
The Red Wings nearly made it 2-0 with 5:28 remaining in the second period, but Reimer made a glove save to stop Dylan Larkin on a 3-on-1 break.
Reimer kept the Panthers in the game with two nice saves in the third period, stopping breakaways by Tomas Tatar at 4:00 and Gustav Nyquist at 6:23.

"Those saves changed the game," Panthers coach Bob Boughner said. "Reimer had a rough game the last time out, but I could tell this morning that he was focused on playing a good one tonight. He gave us a chance to win."
Trocheck made it 1-1 with a power-play goal at 10:09 of the third, knocking home a pass made by Huberdeau while lying on his stomach. Trocheck has eight points (three goals, five assists) in a five-game point streak.
"I really didn't have much going on tonight -- I felt like I was floating a little -- but when [Huberdeau] gives me that pass I had to put it in," Trocheck said.
In overtime, Matheson poked the puck away from Athanasiou in the defensive zone, chased it down and took a backhand that Howard stopped. Bjugstad tried to knock in the rebound, but Howard made a second save before Matheson slid the puck into the empty net.
"He's got great speed, which makes him perfect for 3-on-3," Boughner said. "He created the turnover and he just kept moving his feet on that play."
